Some Manchester United stars would reportedly have no objection to Mason Greenwood being allowed to return to first-team training.

The 21-year-old remains absent from the club’s training ground as United’s internal investigation continues, following the news all charges against Greenwood had been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service earlier this month. Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour after being arrested by police in January 2022.

Although he is not expected to play for United this seasonThe Times report that some members of the first-team squad at Old Trafford would have no objection if he came back into the fold.

Provided the club’s own investigation finds that Greenwood is innocent, those players would be happy for him to return to training at Carrington.

However, the report adds that members of the United women’s team have serious concerns over Greenwood potentially returning to training.

It is understood that they would be unhappy if he was allowed to come back to the training ground, which they share with the men’s team. The women’s players do not expect Greenwood to be recalled to the first-team squad.

Greenwood released a statement after the CPS dropped all the charges against him but has not commented any further on the matter since.

The statement read: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.”

United also put out a statement in response to the news, in which they revealed they would carry out their own investigation before deciding how to proceed with the matter. Greenwood still has over two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.

He has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for United since making his debut as a 17-year-old in March 2019 but has not played for the club since a home win against West Ham United in January last year.
