TEN HAG: WE’RE GRATEFUL TO THE FANS

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag thanked the Old Trafford crowd for helping his side to beat Real Betis handsomely on Thursday night – a much-needed outcome after last weekend’s defeat at Anfield.

The boss also praised the positive attitude of his players and admitted he was particularly pleased to see Bruno Fernandes’s fine display of leadership rewarded with a goal and Wout Weghorst’s tireless efforts in attack pay off with a first goal at home for the Reds.

Below you can watch the manager’s post-match interview with MUTV and read the main comments from his conversation with BT Sport…

FANS WERE BEHIND US

“I think we played a very good game. In both halves. At half-time we should have already been 3-0 up but it was 1-1, we made one mistake and were punished for it. But I thinked we played well, especially in the second half. 4-1, good goals, and a good performance also, to give something to the fans. They gave us something back as well because they were behind us. We’re very grateful after Sunday.”

HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE

“It was a good attitude, from the start. Front foot, we were good on the ball, finding spare men in the midfield. We made good switches, we made good runs in behind and created a lot of chances so yes, we are happy today.”

SECOND-HALF RESPONSE TO BETIS EQUALISER

“It’s always [a matter of] seeing how your team reacts after a setback. This was not the first time this season. I think already five or six times we can reset, we can bounce back. This time has character. Big compliment to the team.”

GOALS FOR WEGHORST AND FERNANDES

“He [Weghorst] was so close many times already and he has created so many chances and goals for others by making space. Now he has his goal [at Old Trafford] and he deserved it. For Bruno, I think he was brilliant today. He led the team from the first minute by his game. In possession, he made the rhythm of the game and he scored a goal so I am happy.”

SUBS PLAYED THEIR PART

“I think also the subs made a good impact. All – Aaron, Jadon and Ty, and you see when we bring the last two subs on [Scott McTominay and Facundo Pellistri], they made it 4-1 straight away. Great action from Pellistri, a finish by Scott and then the rebound is for Wout.”
