Manchester United are set to be without winger Alejandro Garnacho, ahead of the Europa League round-of-16 second leg against Real Betis in Spain.
The 18-year-old has often been electric this season but his appearance off the bench against Southampton on Sunday was cut short early, after he suffered an injury during a challenge from Saints’ right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
Garnacho continued playing for a little while longer, but he was eventually substituted for Fred during injury time in our 0-0 draw.
Our no.49, who had been called up by Argentina for the upcoming home friendlies with Panama and Curacao, was later seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches and has confirmed on Instagram that he faces a spell on the sidelines.
Anthony Martial and Marcel Sabitzer are also injury doubts for the trip to Seville, while Erik ten Hag will hope to have Victor Lindelof available again after illness.
Martial has been training with the rest of the group but Ten Hag is being cautious about a return, with the Frenchman currently managing the hip problem that has kept him out since the beginning of February.
Sabitzer, meanwhile, missed out on the first leg and the draw with Southampton and the extent of the Austrian loanee’s problem is not yet clear.
However, the Brazilian is walking a disciplinary tightrope in Europe, as another yellow card would see him have to serve a one-match Europa League ban. Bruno Fernandes is the only other Red who is just one caution away from a suspension in the competition.
With United in a comfortable position given last week’s 4-1 first-leg win at Old Trafford, Ten Hag may look to rotate his side following a hectic start to 2023 which has seen us have to negotiate 20 games in 71 days.
Fred, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Facundo Pellistri will all be eager for a start, having been involved as subs on Sunday, while Diogo Dalot, Anthony Elanga, Kobbie Mainoo and Tyrell Malacia did not feature at all against the Saints.
United’s travelling squad for the clash with Real Betis will be revealed on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of Ten Hag’s press conference from the Estadio Benito Villamarin (17:45 GMT start).
Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are continuing their recoveries from longer-term issues and won’t be making the trip.
REAL BETIS TEAM NEWS
Manuel Pellegrini looks set to be without centre-back Luiz Felipe for Thursday night’s game.
The Italy international played the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford last week but has since suffered a hamstring injury which will reportedly keep him out for a couple of weeks.
Nabil Fekir is out for the season but fellow midfield playmaker Sergio Canales started for the first time since recovering from injury, during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Villarreal. Paul Akoujou and Martin Montoya are ineligible, while Juan Cruz is also injured.
Rui Silva kept goal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday, but Claudio Bravo has been the preferred keeper in this competition lately.
