WHO SHOULD BE PLAYER OF THE MONTH?

MUTV host Liam Bradford is joined on the latest instalment of our regular panel show by former players Danny Webber and Lou Macari, plus journalists David McDonnell and Neil Custis.

During the chat, they preview this weekend’s return to Premier League action at Newcastle United, reflect on United Women’s Old Trafford win and choose their standout performer from Erik ten Hag’s squad for March, among other topics.

In their chat about the monthly award, our guests make a case for each of our three players in the running – Bruno FernandesLisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford

DAVID MCDONNELL

“I’d give it to Lisandro Martinez personally, I think he’s been outstanding, as he has been all season. I saw something the other day about his passing range from the back and the way he brings the ball out from the back, we talk about his tenaciousness and his warrior spirit and his tackling and everything but his ball-playing is exceptional. The way he can pick out a pass out of defence. I just think the way he battles through, he really dragged the side through that game and got what could be a vital point against Southampton. I think he’s been outstanding all season, so I’d give it to Martinez.”

LOU MACARI

Marcus Rashford winning it for the last three months in a row is not a reason not to give him it this month! But his form has been brilliant agan, so it’s got to be Marcus for me.”

DANNY WEBBER

“Again, I’m going to go with Marcus Rashford. [He’s done it in the] key moments [and had the] key mentality, he’s been a difference maker and is owning the shirt again, so for me, I’ll give it to Marcus. Strikers’ union as well! I always go with the forwards.”

NEIL CUSTIS

“I’ll go with Bruno Fernandes. A lot of fingers are pointed at him that he loses possession a lot, but I think as the manager points out, he’s taking the risk that might just make the difference to get that through ball and that sometimes is when the ball will go to the opposition defence, but he’s always looking for that opening. He’s creating and he’s scoring, I think he really has got back to his very best again, so I would choose him.”
