ERIKSEN VOWS REDS WILL RESPOND AT WEMBLEY

Christian Eriksen is keeping the faith for Sunday’s next assignment after Manchester United’s disappointing 3-0 Europa League defeat against Sevilla.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored twice, either side of a fortunate Loic Bade goal, to book the Spanish team’s place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

It was a tough one for the Reds, who struggled to match the intensity of our opponents, but Eriksen is already looking to the future with the Emirates FA Cup last-four clash coming up fast, with Brighton & Hove Albion, impressive throughout 2022/23, providing the opposition at Wembley.

When asked if we can bounce back at the weekend, Christian told BT Sport: “Yeah, I think it will be easy.

“I think everyone as a footballer has had a bad day and the next day will change. It’s really just the mentality [that] has to change.

“We know it’s going to be a completely different opponent, a completely different style, so I think, from tomorrow, there will be a focus on Brighton.”

Eriksen missed our Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle United due to injury but has plenty of experience at playing at the stadium from his Tottenham days.

“It’s definitely going to change our feelings towards the next game or whoever we’re going to play after this,” he added on MUTV. “We want to show that we’re better than what we did today. We want to give something back to the fans and to the club.

“It’s just a big disappointment but like I said, there’s a new focus in three days’ time and that’s another very important game so I’m sure we’ll be up for that as well.”

Reflecting on the night in Seville, our no. 14 admitted that it was a collective struggle for all of our players.

“I think we lost a bit of our coolness in the build-up, they went high pressure, we didn’t really do well with that. I think we made more mistakes than we normally do.

“I think any opponent, when you play like today and you give the chances away you do, then of course you’re going to lose the game. Like you said, in the first game we felt in control until the 80-something minute but, again, it’s football. If you don’t want to take your chances when you have them, then you’re going to be punished in the end.”

Erik ten Hag will be expecting a stronger showing from his team on Sunday, with the chance to reach a second major domestic final in his first season in charge the prize on offer.
