ERIKSEN: WE’LL BOUNCE BACK FROM THIS

Midfielder Christian Eriksen believes Manchester United will respond positively to a frustrating 1-0 defeat at West Ham United.

After losing to a late penalty last time out at Brighton on Thursday, the Reds were hopeful of returning to winning ways in the capital, but Said Benrahma’s sole strike was the difference on a difficult evening at the London Stadium.

Though it looked as though David De Gea got a glove to the Algerian’s effort, he couldn’t keep it out.

“He [De Gea] is one of the reasons why we are where we are,” Eriksen said, in defence of his team-mate.

“He has proven that again and again. Anyone can have a bad game or a little mistake.

“We had the team and we had the qualities. We should have bounced back and we will.”

Our no.14 believes there has been a running theme of not taking our chances in narrow losses like today, saying: “I think we started the game well and felt we were in a good position to really get a grip on the game.

“I think it’s been a theme in a lot of the games we’ve lost or games we’ve played this season. We’ve had a lot of chances to finish the games early which, unluckily, we haven’t done. You can see that today.

“Teams in the Premier League are tough and are good enough to punish us if we don’t take them.”

Our clash with the Irons marked our 57th game this season – the most of any team in Europe’s top five leagues.

Despite our extensive run of games, Eriksen doesn’t think it’s too much of a contributing factor to our dip in form: “I don’t think so. I think you get into a rhythm of playing the games.

“This season is coming to an end but I still think we’ve got the energy to push and energy to win the games.

“I’m sure for the next five games we’ll have the energy to finish in a strong way.”
