This week’s soccer questions: can anyone keep pace with Arsenal and are Manchester United doomed?

# Can Anyone Stop Arsenal? And Where Does That Leave Us?

Right, let’s address the elephant in the room. After watching Arsenal dismantle Coventry City 3-0 on opening night, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Gunners are going to waltz to another title. The Guardian is already asking if anyone can keep pace with them, and honestly, it’s a fair question that should light a fire under our lads.

But here’s where I take issue with the doom and gloom merchants: calling United “doomed” is absolute nonsense. Have these people not been paying attention? Michael Carrick just delivered a minor miracle last season, guiding us to third place and Champions League football after taking over in January when Ruben Amorim was sacked. Eleven wins from sixteen matches, beating City, Arsenal, and Liverpool along the way. That’s not doom, that’s progress.

Yes, Arsenal look frightening right now. Mikel Arteta has built something special at the Emirates, there’s no denying that. But let’s remember we’ve got genuine quality in our squad now. Benjamin Šeško gives us the clinical edge we’ve been crying out for, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo add real firepower, and our midfield spine of Bruno Fernandes, Youri Tielemans, and Kobbie Mainoo can compete with anyone on their day.

The real question isn’t whether we’re doomed. It’s whether Carrick, now permanent Head Coach with a contract until 2028, can build on last season’s momentum and close that gap. We’ve got Champions League football back where it belongs. We’ve got Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox rebuilding the structure properly under INEOS ownership.

Are we title favourites? No. But doomed? Absolutely not. This season is about continued progress, establishing our style, and proving we belong back among the elite. Arsenal might be flying now, but there’s a long way to go. Come May, we’ll see who’s laughing.
