**The Cracks Are Showing: Why Our Brighton Collapse Points to Deeper Issues**

Listen, losing to Brighton at the Amex is never a nice afternoon, but Saturday’s collapse has exposed problems that go far beyond Michael Carrick’s touchline decisions. Yes, the gaffer deserves questions after that second-half capitulation, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, the rot runs deeper than tactics and team selection.

Carrick earned his permanent deal in May by delivering exactly what was asked: Champions League football, big wins over City, Arsenal and Liverpool, and stability after the Amorim disaster. Eleven wins from sixteen matches as interim was impressive. But now the real test begins. This is his squad, his system, his responsibility. No more interim excuses.

Yet INEOS and Omar Berrada must shoulder plenty of blame too. We’ve brought in Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Karl Darlow this summer, but are these truly elite signings that close the gap to City and Arsenal? Tielemans offers experience, sure, but he’s hardly the transformative midfielder we’ve been crying out for. Meanwhile, our attack remains wildly inconsistent despite having genuine talent like Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

The defence is particularly worrying. We’ve got Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez and Leny Yoro on the books, yet we’re still shipping goals like a mid-table side. Is it coaching? Personnel? Confidence? Probably all three. Luke Shaw’s fitness issues continue, and while Diogo Dalot works hard, are we really title contenders with this backline?

Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team need a long look in the mirror too. We’ve spent big in recent windows but still lack that genuine world-class spine.

The season’s barely started, and we’ve got Bayern Munich coming to Old Trafford in the Champions League soon. Carrick needs answers quickly, because the patience Sir Jim showed by appointing him won’t last forever if results don’t improve. We demand better, and we deserve it.
