# Mystery Solved: Why JJ Gabriel Made United’s Official Team Photo

Right, let’s talk about the curious case of JJ Gabriel appearing in our official team photo this season. The 16-year-old has got everyone buzzing after being included alongside the first team squad, and BBC’s Simon Stone has given us the lowdown on what this actually means for the youngster’s future at Old Trafford.

Look, we all know Michael Carrick isn’t afraid to blood young talent. The man played alongside the Class of ’92 legends and understands what it means to give academy lads a proper chance. Gabriel’s inclusion in that photo isn’t just a nice gesture for the cameras, it’s a statement of intent from the coaching staff and the INEOS hierarchy.

What’s exciting here is that Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox are clearly backing a long-term vision. We’ve seen Kobbie Mainoo explode onto the scene, Harry Amass and Shea Lacey getting opportunities, and now Gabriel is firmly in the first team picture at just 16 years old. This is the United way, the philosophy that separates us from the oil clubs throwing money at ready-made stars.

Gabriel’s talent must be exceptional to earn this recognition. You don’t get into that team photo alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martínez and Benjamin Šeško unless the coaching staff see something genuinely special. Carrick and his team are watching this kid day in, day out at Carrington, and they’ve clearly seen enough to fast-track his development.

The question now is when, not if, we’ll see Gabriel in a matchday squad. With the demands of the Premier League and Champions League this season, squad depth will be tested. Could we see him get minutes in the Carabao Cup? Stranger things have happened. One thing’s certain: the future looks bright when we’re putting faith in our academy again.
