Mbeumo handball decision was wrong, Howard Webb tells Nottingham Forest

# Webb Admits What We All Knew: Forest Were Robbed

Right, let’s talk about this Howard Webb admission, shall we? The PGMO chief has finally come out and told Nottingham Forest what everyone with functioning eyeballs could see – that Matheus Cunha goal against them shouldn’t have stood because of a blatant handball in the buildup.

Look, I know this doesn’t directly affect us at Old Trafford, but it speaks to a much bigger problem we’ve been screaming about for years. How many times have we watched decisions go against United this season? How many times did we see Michael Carrick on the touchline absolutely fuming at yet another VAR shambles while he was dragging us from mid-table obscurity back into the Champions League spots?

The fact that Webb can sit down after the match and say “yeah, we got that wrong” means absolutely nothing to Forest. They’ve already dropped points. The damage is done. It’s the same story every week – apologies after the fact while teams suffer the consequences in real time.

Webb’s admission sets a dangerous precedent too. If PGMO keeps acknowledging mistakes but nothing fundamentally changes, what’s the point? We need accountability that actually means something. Referees and VAR officials should face real consequences for these howlers, not just a quiet “my bad” behind closed doors.

Credit where it’s due – at least Webb is being transparent with these admissions. But transparency without improvement is just window dressing. Forest deserved better, and frankly, so do we all.

As we head into the 2026-27 season with Carrick now permanent and Champions League football secured, the last thing we need is our brilliant third-place finish being undermined by officiating incompetence. The referees need to sort themselves out before August, because United are coming for silverware.
