# Carrick’s Honeymoon Over: Hull Humiliation Shows We Need Transfer Window Miracles
Well, that was a painful reality check, wasn’t it? Just when we thought Michael Carrick had turned things around with that brilliant run to secure third place last season, we get served a cold dose of humility at Hull. Two goals from set pieces. Two centre-backs scoring against us. Sound familiar?
Look, I’m backing Carrick. He earned the permanent job fair and square, beating City, Arsenal, and Liverpool on his way to Champions League qualification. But this result screams what we’ve all been thinking: this squad still has gaping holes that need filling before the window slams shut.
The fact that Hull’s Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy could expose our defensive frailties so easily is deeply worrying. Yes, we’ve got quality in Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez, and young Leny Yoro, but clearly the defensive organization remains a work in progress. Losing concentration at set pieces has plagued us for years now, through multiple Head Coaches, and it’s maddening that we’re still shipping goals the same way.
Our attack looked toothless too. With Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo all in the squad now, you’d think we’d have more cutting edge. But sluggish is exactly the right word for what we witnessed. No urgency, no creativity, no fight.
Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox need to act fast. We’ve got Champions League football coming, and if we turn up like this against Europe’s elite, we’ll be embarrassed. Carrick deserves backing in the market. He’s shown he can get results when it matters, but he needs better tools to work with.
This is exactly why we can’t get complacent. One poor result doesn’t define our season, but it better serve as a massive wake-up call. Come on United!
